It is important to acknowledge here that many countries and regions around the world have a fondness for spicy food. Countries like Thailand, Mexico, China, South Korea, and Malaysia are known for their spicy culinary traditions, While India stands out for its spicy cuisine

India is widely considered the country with the maximum usage of spice in its cuisine. Indian food is renowned for its bold and vibrant Flavors, thanks to the skillful use of a wide range of spices and herbs that originate from different states. Spices such as cumin, turmeric, coriander, cardamom, ginger, garlic, and chili peppers are an integral part of Indian cooking and contribute to the distinctive spiciness found in many dishes.

India is a food lover's paradise, especially when it comes to street food and spice.  Every Foreign national who visits India looks for spice and street food. In this Travel Foodie article, we will come to know about the top five places in India known for their incredible street food scenes.

Mumbai, Maharashtra:-

Mumbai's street food is legendary and offers a delightful mix of flavors and cuisines. From the iconic Vada Pav (a spiced potato fritter in a bun) and Pav Bhaji (a buttery bread roll served with vegetable curry) to the tangy and spicy Pani Puri (crispy hollow puris filled with a mixture of tangy tamarind water, chutney, and potatoes), Mumbai's street food scene is a must-try for any foodie.

Suggested place:- One such popular and well-regarded street food place in Mumbai is "Bademiya." It is located in the bustling area of Colaba and has been serving delicious street food for several decades. Bademiya is particularly famous for its mouthwatering kebabs, rolls, and other grilled delicacies. The vibrant atmosphere, quick service, and flavorsome food make it a favorite spot among locals and tourists alike.  Don’t miss this place when you are in Mumbai next.

Old Delhi, Delhi:-

A visit to Old Delhi is a sensory overload of sights, sounds, and of course, aromas of delectable street food. Chandni Chowk, the heart of Old Delhi, is famous for its street food delights. 

Suggested place:- One renowned street food destination in Delhi is "Paranthe Wali Gali" (a street dedicated to stuffed parathas) located in the historic area of Chandni Chowk. It is a narrow lane lined with shops that specialize in serving delicious parathas, which are stuffed flatbreads. The variety of parathas available here is immense, ranging from classic options like aloo (potato) and gobhi (cauliflower) to unique and innovative fillings like rabri (sweet condensed milk) and banana. The crispy and flavorful parathas served with a side of tangy chutneys and pickles make Paranthe Wali Gali a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts in Delhi.

Kuremal Mohan Lal Kulfi Wale (known for its delicious kulfis), and Karim's (a historic eatery serving mouthwatering kebabs and biryanis) are nearby ones to try. 

Kolkata, West Bengal:-

Kolkata is renowned for its vibrant street food culture. The city's must-try street food includes the iconic Kathi Rolls (flaky parathas filled with skewered meats, vegetables, and tangy sauces), Puchka (similar to Pani Puri but with a distinct Kolkata twist), and Jhalmuri (a spicy and tangy puffed rice snack mixed with onions, spices, and chutneys).

Suggested place:- One highly acclaimed street food destination in Kolkata is "Dacre Lane." Situated in the heart of Kolkata's Park Street area, Dacre Lane is a vibrant lane filled with numerous food stalls and eateries offering a variety of delectable street food options. From mouthwatering kathi rolls, puchka (pani puri), and jhal muri (spicy puffed rice) to kebabs, momos, and Chinese street food, Dacre Lane has something to satisfy every food lover's cravings. The bustling atmosphere and the array of Flavors make it a favorite spot for locals and visitors to indulge in Kolkata's vibrant street food scene.

Amritsar, Punjab:-

Amritsar, the culinary capital of Punjab, is famous for its rich and hearty street food. The city is known for its iconic dish, Amritsari Kulcha (a stuffed bread served with chole, and spiced chickpeas), as well as Makki Ki Roti and Sarson Ka Saag (cornmeal flatbread with mustard greens). Don't forget to try the lip-smacking Lassi (a creamy yogurt-based drink) to complete your food adventure. 

Suggested Place:- One of the most renowned street food places in Amritsar is "Kesar Da Dhaba." Established in 1916, Kesar Da Dhaba has become an iconic culinary destination in the city. It is known for serving authentic Punjabi cuisine, with a particular focus on delicious vegetarian dishes. One of their signature dishes is the creamy and rich dal makhani, which is a lentil curry cooked with butter and cream. Kesar Da Dhaba is also famous for its stuffed parathas, paneer tikka, and lassi (a refreshing yogurt-based drink).   I personally liked this very much during my last visit to Amritsar and Chandigarh.  The traditional ambiance and the flavorsome food make it a must-visit place for food enthusiasts in Amritsar.

Jaipur, Rajasthan:-

Jaipur (the pink city) offers a delightful array of street food that beautifully showcases the flavors of Rajasthan. Indulge in the popular Pyaaz Kachori (deep-fried pastries stuffed with spiced onion filling), Mirchi Bada (deep-fried chili fritters), and Ghewar (a traditional Rajasthani sweet made with deep-fried flour and soaked in sugar syrup). The bustling street markets like Bapu Bazaar and Johri Bazaar are perfect places to explore these culinary delights.

Suggested place:- One popular street food place in Jaipur is "Chawla's Restaurant & Sweets." Located in the bustling MI Road area, Chawla's is known for its wide array of delicious street food offerings. From mouthwatering chaat items like pani puri, sev puri, and dahi bhalla to scrumptious Rajasthani snacks like pyaaz kachori and samosa, Chawla's is a haven for street food lovers. They also serve a variety of sweets, including the famous Rajasthani delicacy, ghewar. The vibrant ambiance, quick service, and delicious food make Chawla's a popular choice for locals and tourists seeking authentic street food experiences in Jaipur. A lot of foreign nationals prefer to dine out here.
