During these periods, the weather is relatively stable, and the trekking routes are accessible. It is better to avoid visiting during the monsoon season (July to August) due to heavy rainfall and the possibility of landslides and air crashes.

Getting on to Kathmandu: 👇👇

Your journey to Muktinath Temple begins in Kathmandu, which is the capital city of Nepal. International travelers can fly to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, which is well-connected to major cities around the world. From there, you have two options to reach Muktinath: Either by road or by air.

By Road: Pakhara – Jomsom - Muktinath 👇👇

To reach Muktinath by road, you need to take a bus or hire a private vehicle from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The distance is around 206 Kilometres and the scenic journey by road takes around 6-7 hours by bus, while a private vehicle may take less time.

From Pokhara, you can take another bus or hire a jeep to Jomsom, which is the gateway to Muktinath. The road from Jomsom to Muktinath is rugged, so be prepared for a bumpy ride.  From Pokhara to Jomsom the total distance is around 165 Kilometers and it takes around 8 to 9 hours to reach Jomsom en route you can see Beni, Tatopani, Ghasa, and Marpha. You will have to stay overnight here.

Next day morning drive from Jomson to Muktinath which is only around 16 Kilometers.  Pay hour homage to Muktinath and return back by road on the same route.  You will need a minimum of 1 week to cover by road. 

Please note that traveling by road requires you to carry certain mandatory original documents viz. Adhaar Card, Pan card, Registration certificate, Driving License, Valid Insurance, Valid pollution certification, Purchase document of the vehicle, etc. apart from passport-size photographs of all the persons visiting by road. 

By Air: Helicopter Service 👇👇

Most of the pilgrims visit Muktinath by Helicopter Service in lieu of paucity of time.  There are Direct  Helicopter services from Kathmandu Airport to Muktinath Temple and the journey time is only 1 and a half hours – one way.  After you pay your homage you can either come by Helicopter or by Road to Pokhara. 

By Air: Flight Service 👇👇

If you prefer a quicker and more comfortable option, you can take a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and it takes only 25 minutes to reach. From Pokhara you need to take another flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. The flight duration is around 25-30 minutes, offering spectacular aerial views of the Himalayan peaks. But the problem here is the flight service is available only once in the morning and hence you need to stay back one day at Pokhara. 

From Jomsom, you can hire a jeep or trek to Muktinath.

By Trekking to Muktinath:👇👇

For adventure enthusiasts, trekking to Muktinath is a popular choice. The most common trekking route is the Jomsom-Muktinath Trek. The trek starts from Jomsom and takes approximately 2-3 days, depending on your speed. It is a moderate-level trek that offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.

Traveling to Nepal is as easy as traveling to any other place in India and Nepal has become the most accessible country for the citizens of India. Indians do not need any visa or passport to enter or travel to Nepal.  However, every Indian traveler needs to carry some valid documents to show their identity at the India-Nepal border check post.

However, all devotees who are visiting Muktinath are required to collect two permit cards, if they plan to visit Muktinath by road and by air.  Following are the details of permits that are required to be obtained prior to travel.

ACAP – Annapurna Conversation Area Permit to be obtained from Nepal Tourism, which is located at Pokhara and Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu.  ✅✅

TIMS – Trekker’s Information Management System Permit to be obtained from TAAN, located at two places viz. Mali Guan, Kathmandu, and Satghumti Thamel.  ✅✅

How to Get these passes?  

ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit)

1.     Visit the Nepal Tourism Board office located in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

2.     Fill out the necessary application form for the ACAP permit. You may need to provide your personal details, travel itinerary, and the purpose of your visit.

3.     Submit the completed application form along with the required fee. The fee varies for foreign nationals and SAARC nationals.

4.     Once your application is processed, you will receive the ACAP permit.


TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) Pass

5.     TIMS passes are required for trekking in the Annapurna region, including the route to Muktinath.

6.     There are two types of TIMS passes: TIMS Card (for individual trekkers) and TIMS Permit (for trekkers in a group).

7.     Individual trekkers need to register at the TIMS counter in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

8.     Fill out the TIMS application form with your personal details, trekking itinerary, and emergency contact information.

9.     You will also need to provide two passport-sized photographs and a copy of your passport.

10.  Pay the applicable fee, which varies for foreigners, SAARC nationals, and Nepali citizens.

11.  Once your application is processed, you will receive the TIMS Card or TIMS Permit.

Please note that It's important to carry your ACAP and TIMS permits with you during your visit to Muktinath. These permits may be checked at various checkpoints along the way.

1.     TIMS for SAARC Nations (Indians) – NPR (600 for individuals) and (300 for groups).

2.     TIMS for Foreign Nationals – NPR (2000 for Individuals) and (1000 for groups)

3.     Cost of ACAP Permits varies somewhere between NPR 1500 and 3000. 

Climate Acclimatization and Altitude Sickness:
